Our Leadership

Katie Paulsen

State Regent
I love DAR because it reflects the values I learned from my grandparents in Sterling, Illinois. They lived lives of service, always looking for ways to give more than they received. Through DAR, I can honor their example and my patriot’s service to forming our country by serving others, preserving history, supporting education, and strengthening my community. The friendships, shared patriotism, and opportunities to make a difference allow me to continue to carry forward to teachers, students and veterans in my community  a legacy of service that has been important to my family for generations.

DAR is where women join together in sisterhood to achieve greatness. Women working together in service under Daughters of the American Revolution’s three pillars to honor God, Home and Country. In volunteer service, we preserve our country’s history, educate our youth, plus showcase and spread our Patriotism. Daughters share a common thread, we are women with direct descendants of an American Patriot, sisters! What a great way to honor those who came before us!

Rose Esterly

Chaplain

I joined DAR quite simply because I could. I discovered a patriot when playing around on Ancestry and considered it an honor to be a member in this genealogical society. The best part of this organization is the educational aspects we provide — solely through volunteering — to the youth of our country through educational means. The history of our great nation would be lost were it not for the educational resources DAR provides in disciplines such as history, patriotism and historic preservation.

Kathryn “Kathy” Christmann

Recording Secretary

I value DAR because it is a service organization. It connects me to my Patriot ancestors, whose service and sacrifice helped to create this great nation. DAR also allows me to honor their legacy by giving me opportunities to continue their commitment to service to our country. Because of DAR, I am a member of a diverse community of women who share an enduring and unshakable love of historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

Karen Andrews

Corresponding Secretary

I am drawn to DAR because it blends heartfelt patriotism with a true sense of community, uniting us in honoring the ancestors who shaped our nation. Through its commitment to historical education and preservation, DAR offers a meaningful way to ensure our country’s story continues to inspire future generations.

Melanie Higley

Organizing Secretary

I value DAR because it led me to friendships and a sense of connection with women in my community of all ages, backgrounds, and life experiences. I enjoy that it gives me the opportunity to help others document and honor their lineage and the service of their patriot ancestors.

Penny Simon-Nielsen

Treasurer

DAR has offered me lifelong learning, cherished friendships, and a connection to my community through work with our local public schools, libraries, police, fire, and our veterans. The DAR Youth Leadership Award is an important program for our chapter. Through the efforts of our National Defense Committee, we have built strong partnerships with local schools. These relationships allow us to recognize students who demonstrate outstanding leadership, both in their schools and through their service to the community.

Terri Clarke

Registrar

DAR celebrates America in many ways! Just a few ways DAR does this is by supporting and honoring our veterans and first responders, assisting in and providing supplies for our community classrooms, fostering and encouraging patriotism, awarding scholarships, and so much more!

Sierra Hansen

Historian

My love for the Daughters of the American Revolution stems from the countless ways it enriches my life — offering something for everyone, fostering lasting friendships, and building connections that span my local community, our state, and our entire nation. DAR gives me the profound privilege of honoring my ancestors while inspiring me to serve my community and country in meaningful ways. To be a member of DAR is to be part of a sisterhood bound by heritage, united in service, and inspired by the enduring ideals upon which America was built.

Being a member of the DAR allows me to honor my lineage by actively participating in historic preservation, ensuring the stories of our nation's founders inspire future generations. Through our dedicated service projects, I am able to give back to my local community and support our veterans in meaningful, tangible ways. Ultimately, it is a privilege to stand alongside a passionate sisterhood that turns a deep love for our country into lifelong patriotism and impactful action.
