Contests and Awards
The Arizona State Society Daughters of the American Revolution participates in many community awareness programs and competitions. These programs are initiated at the local chapter level. Please check with your local DAR Chapter for more information if you are interested in one of these programs. Please e-mail or write to the chapter nearest to your community for more information or see the NSDAR web site.
The American History Essay Contests
There are two contests each year. The first contest is open to students in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8. The second contest is open to students in grades 9 - 12. Students must be attending public, private, or sanctioned home school programs. There is an assigned topic each year. Certificates and medals are awarded accordingly. Schools are invited and sponsored by individual chapters to participate in this program. State winners are also recognized.

Community Service Award
This award recognizes worthy residents for outstanding achievement in cultural, educational, humanitarian, patriotic, and citizenship endeavor, and historical or environmental conservation. The recipient should have contributed to his/her community in a praiseworthy manner through civic and benevolent activities or acts of heroism. Individuals are invited and sponsored by individual chapters to participate in this program.

This contest is open to senior students of public and private high schools. Schools are invited and sponsored by individual chapters to participate in this program. State winners are also recognized and receive an award.

Students may attend accredited or non-accredited public, private, or parochial schools. Schools are invited and sponsored by individual chapters to participate in this program.

The JAC program is open to all youth but especially preschool through high school, regardless of race, color, creed, or national origin. Any chapter or DAR member may sponsor a JAC Club. Teachers and directors within the groups need not be DAR members. There is NO COST to anyone. The JAC program offers optional contest programs annually to preschool through high school students. Schools and groups are sponsored by individual chapters.

ROTC Medals
Medals and campaign bars are awarded to student cadets of outstanding ability and achievement in secondary school, junior college, college, or university ROTC programs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and the Naval Sea Cadet Units. Selection of the students to receive the DAR ROTC awards is made by professors of military science and the principal or head of the schools. Requests for ROTC medals may be made by professors of military science academies to local DAR chapters or to the National Defense Committee, NSDAR in Washington, DC. |
